O Μάριος Οικονόμου γεννήθηκε στα Ιωάννινα, στις 6 Οκτωβρίου 1992 και είναι Έλληνας διεθνής ποδοσφαιριστής, ο οποίος αγωνίζεται στην Ιταλική Μπολόνια ως αμυντικός. Ξεκίνησε την ποδοσφαιρική του καριέρα από την ερασιτεχνική ομάδα του ΠΑΣ Γιάννινα και το 2011 εντάχθηκε στην πρώτη ομάδα του Ηπειρωτικού συλλόγου όπου και παρέμεινε επί μία διετία. Το 2013 αποχώρησε για να συνεχίσει την καριέρα του στην Ιταλική Κάλιαρι, με τη φανέλα της οποίας αγωνίστηκε μόλις σε έναν αγώνα πρωταθλήματος. Την επόμενη χρονιά, το καλοκαίρι του 2014 αποκτήθηκε από την Μπολόνια, στην οποία αγωνίζεται μέχρι σήμερα. Στις 24 Μαρτίου 2016 πραγματοποίησε το ντεμπούτο του με την Ελλάδα με προπονητή τον Μίχαελ Σκίμπε, στην εντός έδρας φιλική αναμέτρηση εναντίον του Μαυροβουνίου (2-1), όπου πέρασε ως αλλαγή στη θέση του Κώστα Μανωλά. Το 2012 υπήρξε διεθνής και με την Ελπίδων (Κ-21)

Marios Oikonomou was born on the 6th of October 1992 and plays for Bologna, in the Serie A, as a central defender. He is a Greece U21 international. Born in Ioannina, Oikonomou began playing football with PAS Giannina. On 14 November 2012, he made his debut for the Greece U21 in a friendly match against Austria U21. He played only one season with the club having 23 appearances in all competitions. After his good 2012-13 season with PAS Giannina, Ikonomou signed a contract with Cagliari, a team in Serie A, the top league in Italy. He was the first ever player in the history of PAS Giannina who managed to sign directly a contract with a foreign club. On April 6, 2014 he made his debut with the club in a home loss against Roma. On 1st July 2014, the Greek defender signed a contract with Bologna and continued his career in Serie B on a transfer deal involved striker Alessandro Capello, who moved permanently from Bologna to Cagliari. On 23rd September 2014 he made his debut with the club scoring in a 1-0 away win against Ternana Calcio. His remarkable season has made him the object of desire in Italy especially for S.S. Lazio and Hellas Verona. In March 2015, Marios Oikonomou has excellent appearances on the field but has gone through a difficult time in which he was forced to stay in the bench after the arrival of Daniele Gastaldello. The transition to the three-man defense allowed him to return to the field and to unlock the game against A.S. Livorno Calcio by scoring a goal giving three key points in the race for promotion. On 9 June 2015, Marios Oikonomou has contributed as Bologna are back in Serie A one-year after their relegation thanks to a dramatic 1-1 play-off result with Pescara Calcio. On 20 September 2015, he helped his club to claim their first win since gaining promotion back to Serie A by beating Frosinone 1-0 at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Bologna took the lead in the 27th minute as Anthony Mounier was picked out by Marios Oikonomou’s ball over the top, before lashing a fierce drive across the keeper and into the far corner. Playing for Bologna since 2014-15 season, Greek centre-back Marios Oikonomou had his own deal with Felsinei officially extended until June 2020. On the 16th of March 2016 Oikonomou was called for the first time to play for the Greece national football team in two friendly matches against Iceland and Montenegro. On 24 March 2016, he made his debut with Greek national team as a substitute for Kostas Manolas in a 2-1 home friendly game against Montenegro
