Maria Sakkari was born on the 25th of July 1995 and she is a Greek professional tennis player. She made her debut for the Greece Fed Cup team in 2012, and achieved her career high singles ranking of No. 42 on 2 April 2018. Her highest WTA doubles ranking is world No. 293, achieved on 16 November 2015. Her mother Angelik\u00ed Kanellopo\u00falou was also a player on the pro tour, and is now her coach. She made her Grand Slam debut at the 2015 US Open. She won her second match in a WTA tournament at the 2016 Istanbul Cup by defeating the number 1 seed Anna Karol\u00edna Schmiedlov\u00e1. After beating Su-Wei Hsieh, she reached her first WTA quarter-final. She reached her first WTA semi-final in the 2017 Wuhan Open by beating Caroline Wozniacki, Elena Vesnina and Aliz\u00e9 Cornet, losing to Caroline Garcia. This success propelled her into the top 50 of the world rankings.
