Giannis Athinaiou was born on the 27th of May 1988 and currently plays for Olympiacos in the Greek Basket League. He is 1.94 m (6 ft 4\u00bd in) tall and weights 96 kg (212 lbs). He can play both at the point guard and shooting guard positions. Athinaiou started playing basketball at a young age in Poseidonas, a club in Psychiko, Athens, before he started his pro career. Athinaiou first played professionally with Ilysiakos. In the summer of 2009, he signed a 4-year contract with Panionios. When his contract ended he joined the Greek League giants Aris Thessaloniki in 2013. After one year with Aris, he joined the Italian League club Olimpia Milano in 2014. In May, he parted ways with the team and played in Turkey for a few months, before returning back to Greece for AEK the next year. In 2015 he signed with the Greek Euroleague team Olympiacos. Athinaiou was a member of the Greek university national team. He played at the 2007 World University Games. He is also a member of the senior men’s Greek national basketball team and was also called in the preparation training of the Greek national team for the 2014 World cup and the 2015 European cup, but did not manage to be final team for the tournaments<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
