The ELIZA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was established in Greece in 2008 with the purpose of protecting children who have suffered or are in danger of suffering abuse and neglect, with emphasis on preschool age children. The main principle of ELIZA is \u201cTODAY NOT TOMORROW\u201d and its mission is to promote the rights \u00a0 and change the life of children through innovative programs, based on international standards and evidence-based practice. In 2009, in collaboration with the \u201cSOS Children\u2019s Villages of Greece\u201d, \u00a0ELIZA \u00a0founded the first Residential Home for the therapy and rehabilitation of abused and neglected children of preschool age in Greece, which as of March 1st 2016, is the full responsibility of the SOS Children\u2019s Villages of Greece. VIMA\/STEP is a community program run in collaboration with the \u201cone child, one world\u201d organization, which offers specialized counseling services and support to parents with young children with the objective of preventing neglect and abuse caused by \u00a0adverse family relations, illness, social isolation, unemployment, poverty or discrimination. With regards to the education of professionals, such as physicians, teachers and mental health professionals, ELIZA designs and implements training courses and seminars aimed at the development of a stable protective circle around every child at risk. Equally important are the education and support of young parents through our guides and brochures and the teaching of young children to protect themselves from sexual abuse. As a Registered Charity ELIZA receives no funding from the State and is totally dependent on public generosity.
