Association of Down Sydrome in Greece was founded in 1990 at the instigation of Mrs Harikleia Chatzisevastou – Loukidou, Professor of Pediatrics Clinical Genetics, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It NPID (non-profit) and our members are more than 430 families – a growing number – from all over Greece. We are the first organized group of parents of children with Down Syndrome. We belong to non goverment organizations that means we do not have fixed subsidy from the state. Its revenues come from: Annual membership fees, disposal and sale Card Easter bazaar, income Sporadic events, rather stable funding from various government agencies. One of the main objectives of our association is to support parents and inform them for all matters relating to the areas of child development Syndrome Down, based on the latest scientific data. In particular, we aim to ensure our children has the best possible deal in the following areas: EDUCATION HEALTH VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE AND INTEGRATION. Future Goals In a short time we managed to organize several activities and to meet some of our goals. But we still have many open fronts and there are many things that need to change. Some of our most important goals for the future are: -Operation of early intervention programs for children with Down -Operation training programs on a larger scale -Ensuring from the state of the rights of persons with Down syndrome in health, in education, at work, in life -Ensuring a better quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families -Ensuring the quality of life of these people when they will not have the support of their families -Another objective for the present and the future is the realization of social integration and acceptance of children with syndrome Down. To do this do not need a lot of money.
